Genesis TRANSITIONS …

A New charter school for unique learners...
FROM SCHOOL TO WORK AND MORE
 

Genesis Transitions will present a true bridge from school to work and independence.  The program will be located in a commercial area in a non-traditional school building.  In other words, we will operate in an office-warehouse setting, giving all of the students the sense that this is work we are preparing for, not another grade in school.  Associates will enter and exit each day through the “employee’s entrance”, not the front door.  They will punch in and out using a time clock.  Beyond the credit recovery portion of the program, they will participate in a mock apartment, meal planning, purchasing, preparation, and serving.  A significant focus will be on self-determination and understanding the demands of personal accountability and decision making.  The Integrated Self-Advocacy Curriculum (Paradiz, 2009) will be implemented as a portion of our self-determination component.  Financial accountability will be presented using the Financial Peace School Curriculum sponsored by Fifth Third Bank and written by Dave Ramsey.

Transitions, comes from Latin for “to go or cross over”.   This new school offers a bridge for young people to cross over from school to the world of work and adult living.  We are designed for students who have participated in special education programs while being included in mainstream classes.   Typically, students will have been identified with learning disabilities, and/or Asperger’s, and/or mild intellectual disabilities.  Our students may not be planning on and/or not have the desire to continue on to college or other advanced technical post-secondary schools.
